Join us on Sunday, August 30th from 4pm - 6:30pm in our Jersey City studio for an introductory mahjong class, taught by Mahj With Mandy!

In this class, you’ll learn the basics of the game from the ground up, including how to recognize and understand the tiles, how to read and use the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card, and the fundamentals of gameplay. We’ll walk through the rules, terminology, and strategy you need to feel confident sitting down for your first game.

No prior Mahjong experience is necessary - this class is designed specifically for beginners!

What’s Included:

  • An introduction to the Mahjong tiles and their meanings
  • A walkthrough of the current NMJL card
  • Step-by-step instruction on how to play
  • All Mahjong supplies needed for class
  • A take-home packet, including your own NMJL card, so you can keep practicing after class

Come ready to learn, play, and have fun! By the end of the class, you’ll have the foundation you need to start playing American Mahjong.

Canvas or Kit: Which is right for you?

Canvas

The Canvas is like your road map: it's a painted version of the original needlepoint design that you follow as you stitch your artwork. It doesn't come with any threads or materials — it's just your guide.

Kit

The Kit includes the canvas plus all the fibers and materials you need to complete the design:

  • The painted canvas
  • All of the fibers needed to stitch the design
  • A needle
  • A bag for fiber storage
