Backgrounds
Backgrounds are the biggest stretch of stitching on any canvas, so you want a thread that covers smoothly and lets the design be the star.
- Best for
- Big areas of a canvas that one color can fill.
- Morgan's tip
- Buy all your background thread at once so it comes from the same dye lot. I always stitch my background first and leave the fun details for last!

The Classics
My go-to threads for just about every canvas. They're smooth, easy to stitch and come in so many colors.
- Best for
- Anything and everything.
- Morgan's tip
- Stitch from your lightest color to your darkest.

Sparkle & Shine
One of our favorite ways to add a little fun to a canvas. Metallics and shimmer threads turn champagne bubbles, metallic accents and glistening water into the best part of the canvas.
- Best for
- Highlights and anything you want to pop.
- Morgan's tip
- Stitch with shorter lengths so metallics don't fray or twist.

Texture
These threads add dimension you can actually feel: a fuzzy sweater, animal fur, a palm tree that pops right off the canvas.
- Best for
- Fur, knits, foliage and anything you want to give depth and dimension.
- Morgan's tip
- If a little fuzz comes off your Very Velvet, run the strand through a dryer sheet to lift the extra lint.

Variegated
Multicolored, overdyed threads that shift color as you stitch, so one thread does the work of many. Great for water, sunsets and anything with a little ombré.
- Best for
- Water, skies, florals and patterned fabric.
- Morgan's tip
- Pull a long length and look at the color run before you start so the shift lands where you want it.

Beads
The finishing touch: a cocktail garnish, a bed of crushed ice under oysters, a little sparkle on top of the tree.
- Best for
- Tiny details and finishing touches.
- Morgan's tip
- Add beads after the stitching is done, using a beading needle and a beading thread that complements the bead.

Screen colors are our best guess. Lighting, photos and your screen settings can all change how a thread looks, so for Morgan's exact picks, check the thread suggestions on each canvas page.
