One of the great features of Alicia's Lace is that it pairs beautifully with threads like Petite Silk Lamé, especially when you're after a more refined and dainty look. The stitch's openness means it won't cover your entire canvas, making it perfect for showcasing the beauty of the underlying design while adding a touch of elegance.
When working with Alicia's Lace, you have the freedom to get creative inside the stitch's diamond shapes. Leaving the diamonds open creates a light, airy feel, but you can also fill them with various embellishments like French knots, Smyrna crosses, or sequins. Personally, I chose to feature Alicia's Lace on my Oysters on the Half Shell canvas, experimenting with beading to mimic the shine and dimension of the ice beneath the oysters.
Tips & Tricks
Thread Choice
Try using lighter threads like Petite Silk Lamé for a delicate look, or mix different thread weights to play with texture and dimension. I actually used Silk & Ivory on my Oysters on the Half Shell canvas even though it's typically not recommended for 18 mesh because I like the weight it brought to the background stitch.
Finishing Touches First
If you choose to feature beads or sequins in the middle of the diamond, stitch those after finishing your other stitching - that way none of your beading gets messed up!
