Basket of Charm
I'm excited to kick off a new series, 'Stitch of the Month'! While I'm a basketweave lover, I appreciate how a different stitch can add depth and dimension to my canvas!
The Wicker Stitch mimics the look of woven wicker, making it the perfect stitch for adding a textured, basket-like appearance to your canvas.
I adore the versatility of the Wicker Stitch. Whether you're working on a large canvas or adding dimension to a smaller project, this stitch brings a touch of elegance and sophistication. It perfectly complements my coastal style, reminiscent of the texture found on Nantucket and picnic baskets.
- Start with a Base: First, stitch a series of vertical stitches. The Wicker Stitch can be worked over as many stitches as you'd like. We're showing Wicker Stitch over 3 stitches
- Stitch Horizontally: Directly next to the set of vertical stitches, stitch a set of horizontal stitches in the same count as your base.
- Repeat: Continue this pattern across and down the Wicker Stitch area of your canvas.
Tips & Tricks
- Thread choice: For a more pronounced texture, consider using a thicker fiber. This will help your wicker pattern stand out!
- Color Play: While the Wicker Stitch can be stitched in one color, don't be afraid to mix and match! Using contrasting threads can highlight the woven effect beautifully.
- Not sure this stitch is for you? Use the white space around the canvas you're stitching to test out different stitch styles.
The Wicker Stitch is a simple yet noticeable stitch that is friendly to beginner and seasoned stitchers alike.
Happy Stitching!
