July's Thread: Cottage Garden Threads In Gerbera
If you haven't stitched with variegated threads yet, consider this your sign! They're one of my favorite ways to add beautiful color variation, texture, and dimension to a canvas.
Cottage Garden Threads has quickly become one of my favorites because it's made up of 10 strandable threads, and every single strand starts and ends with the same color.
Each time you thread a new needle, your colors pick up exactly where you left off, no awkward color jumps, just smooth, seamless stitching from start to finish.
Our Recommended Stitch + Tips:
- For 13 mesh - use all 6 strands
- For 18 mesh - use 3 strands (or 4 strands for a slightly fuller effect)
- It can be used for filling in large areas, as a design element, or even as a background stitch
- For this thread, we recommended using a Double Stitch
Double Stitch creates airy crosses with the appearance of floting on the canvas
- Start by stitching an oblong cross over one vertical canvas intersection and three horizontal canvas intersections. Work across the row from left to right, leaving one vertical canvas intersections between each oblong cross.
- For the next row, move down two horizontal canvas threads. Your oblong crosses will slightly overlap the row above by one canvas thread, creating the layered look that gives this stitch so much dimension.
- Once all of your oblong crosses are in place, finish by adding a simple cross stitch in the open spaces between them. It's the perfect finishing touch that ties the whole pattern together!
