To use, separate the plies and use one or more in the needle according to the pattern directions. One ply is about the same weight as a #5 pearl cotton, six plies of cotton floss, or one ply of Persian wool.
Our Recommended Stitch + Tips:
- For 13 mesh: Use 6 strands for full, polished coverage.
- For 18 mesh: Use 4 strands for an even, effortless finish.
- We love using longer stitches with a laying tool to show off Waterlilies’ pretty color variation and signature silk sheen.
- Our stitch pick: Try the Moorish Stitch for a little extra texture.
What is Moorish Stitch?
The Moorish Stitch is a playful take on the classic Diagonal Scotch Stitch. It’s a composite stitch, meaning it brings together two or more simple stitches to create a pattern that feels a little more intricate while still being a beginner-friendly stitch.

- Start with your Diagonal Scotch Stitch. Work a row of Diagonal Scotch Stitch across your area, keeping each stitch consistent in size and direction.
- Add a row of Tent Stitch. Directly next to your Diagonal Scotch Stitch, work a row of Tent Stitch.
- Alternate your rows. Continue stitching by alternating one row of Diagonal Scotch Stitch with one row of Tent Stitch.
