LNS Spotlight: The Courtly Canvas!

LNS Spotlight: The Courtly Canvas!

We’ve been partnering with The Courtly Canvas since 2023 and have loved every minute! From launching such fun canvases, to experiencing true Texan culture at my first rodeo, our MJD x The Courtly Canvas partnership has become a highlight of my year. While I could never pick a favorite from our collection, the *three new* designs we’ve designed for our March visit are not to be missed….! Here’s a bit more about The Courtly Canvas for anyone interested in taking a trip to the Lone Star State with me.

The Courtly Canvas opened in January of 2023 by four women that love needlepoint and wanted to create a special and welcoming environment for stitchers of all levels. They carry a wide variety of canvases, threads, and needlepoint accessories. Because the four owners have varying tastes, their inventory ranges from whimsical to funny, to elegant. There is truly something for everyone!

When asked what makes their LNS unique, The Courtly Canvas shared that the shop has fostered such a special sense of community. The customers bring the shop to life with their excitement and create an environment where everyone is welcome…complete beginner or seasoned expert! The four owners of The Courtly Canvas blend their unique perspectives to all aspects of the business and want every customer to feel like they’re “coming home” when they walk through the shop doors.

Our friends at The Courtly Canvas shared their best tips on the area for out of towners and locals alike!

Where to Fly into & Where to Stay:

  • Houston has two airports - so wherever you live, you can come see us! HOU is a bit smaller and subsequently closer to town, but IAH is just a bit farther and much larger. Either are great options!
  • We are located in Central Houston near River Oaks. We highly recommend staying in River Oaks, West University, or the Highland Village area for delicious food and fun shopping.

Best Needlepoint Events & Organizations in Town:

  • We love when stitchers spend time at our stitching table, and we strive to host regular events and stitch nights, so make sure you are following our social pages! Houston also has an active Stitch Club that hosts monthly gatherings, and we have recently seen additional groups formed for specific neighborhoods in Houston like the Heights and Memorial. There’s no shortage of passionate needlepointers in the Houston area!

Where to Eat & Drink:

  • We highly recommend you come during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo - which runs for several weeks every year. We have a nightly rodeo followed by a concert, and the fair boasts some of the most iconic foods you’ll find - from fabulous bbq to fried nutella.
  • Outside of the rodeo, Houston is a fabulous melting pot of cultures and subsequently has a vast food scene. Our personal favorite spots by the shop would be Tiny Boxwood’s for a delicious burger, El Tiempo for margaritas and queso, or the Original Carrabba’s on Kirby for Italian food.
  • No trip to Houston is complete without a donut from Shipley’s or a burger from Whataburger.

After a day of Stitching:

  • The rodeo is such a fun bucket list item!
  • The NASA facility is incredible to tour, and it’s featured on our MJD Bar Cart!
  • The Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Museum of Natural Science are worth a visit, and at MFAH you may run into our shop girl Jane!
  • The arts scene is outstanding with fabulous shows at the Hobby Center and Jones Hall & The Symphony.

Here’s a peek at all of our past collaborations from 2023-now! Stay tuned for this years!

Thank you to my friends at The Courtly Canvas for another fantastic year of partnerships. I’ll be in town for events on Thursday, March 20 and Saturday, March 22 - head to The Courtly Canvas website for more information. See you there!!

XO,
Morgan
