A Beginner's Guide To Beading

A Beginner's Guide To Beading

It took me a little while to get into beading when I first started stitching because I found it intimidating, but now it’s one of my favorite ways to add dimension, detail, and a little extra sparkle to a canvas!

Quick beading tip: Beads have tiny holes, so you’ll want to use specialized beading needles (typically size 10 or 12).

A good rule of thumb: your needle should always be at least one size smaller than the bead you’re using. Generally, size 14–15 beads work beautifully on 18 mesh, while size 11 beads tend to pair well with 13 mesh. That said, there’s truly no right or wrong answer, sometimes I like swapping bead sizes to create a different look!

A tool for making beading easier: The EZ-Beader is one of my favorite tools! You Simply attach the wooden disc to your canvas using the included magnets, sprinkle your beads onto the tacky surface, and pick them up with your needle as you stitch.
