A Day in the Life at the New MJD Studio

A Day in the Life at the New MJD Studio

With daylight savings time here, we're springing forward in more ways than one! The longer days mean more golden-hour stitching, extra sunshine streaming into the studio, and even more time to enjoy our creative space. As we settle into our new routine, I wanted to share a glimpse into a typical day at MJD—from early morning orders to team lunches and studio stitch nights.

Starting the Day

I usually get in around 8:30 a.m. with Captain, and the first hour is my quiet time to print orders, review emails, and get organized before the team arrives. It's the perfect way to easy into the day while the studio is still calm.

By 9:45 a.m., Annie and Avery come in, and the morning shift begins! We spend the first part of the day packing retail and wholesale orders, making sure everything is prepped for UPS and USPS around 2 p.m. I also hop on calls with my virtual team to check in on various projects and focus areas.

Afternoon at the Studio

Once orders are packed, the afternoons are a mix of restocking, prepping for Bar Cart Club, putting together kits, and organizing fibers. It's always a blend of structure and creativity, which keeps things exciting.

We also take turns picking music throughout the day, and lately, Vampire Weekend and Vengaboys have been our go-tos for upbeat vibes.

A Favorite Studio Tradition: Team Lunch

One of the best new traditions in this space is our team lunch. Every day, we take a break to sit down and eat together—it's such a nice way to reset in the middle of a busy workday. It's a small moment, but it makes the studio feel even more like home.

Little Moments That Make the Studio Special

Captain has quickly made friends with our UPS driver, Thaney. He can spot the truck before we even see it pull up, which means he's always the first to know when packages are arriving.

Beyond the functionality of the space, one of my absolute favorite things about it is how much natural light we get. Now that days are getting longer, we're soaking in even more of that bright, airy glow, which makes everything feel extra fresh and inviting—perfect for stitching and creativity.

A Studio Meant for Community

Our central location in downtown St. Pete has also been a game-changer. We've finally been able to host stitch nights, something we couldn't do in our last space. What started as just three of us has grown to over a dozen stitchers gathered together, and it's been amazing to build that sense of community.

If you're ever in the area, we'd love to have you stop by! You can always make an appointment to visit by emailing hello@morganjuliadesigns.com.

XO, Morgan
